COURSES

WEDNESDAYS, JUNE 14, 21, 28, JULY 12, 19  11 a.m. ET/10 a.m. CT

TAKE ALL FIVE SESSIONS FOR A REDUCED PRICE! With the rise in jazz in the early part of the 20th Century, a predominately male artform, women will find their niche in the music industry performing the Blues on stages throughout vaudeville and theaters throughout the country. It was not an easy path to follow though (as we will discuss). Yet these women will lead the way for the singers of Swing, Bop, pop and later rock and roll. The lives and careers of the singers Ma Rainey, Bessie Smith, Mamie Smith, Billie Holiday, Koko Taylor, Etta James, Bonnie Riatt, Janis Joplin and many others will be presented in this 5 session course. No class July 5 to accomodate holiday plans.  Each session will be one and a half hours of presentation and discussion and Q&A for attendees. Class will be streamed and recorded for replay on-demand.

Series: Blues Singers-The Ladies (5 sessions)
